Northern Burgundy - October 2009

Nestled deep in the hills and valleys of France's wine regions is a network of navigable canals that provide access to some of the country's most breathtaking scenery. Along these canals, luxury barges glide through the countryside at an unhurried three miles per hour, allowing you to soak in the scenery from sundeck or disembark and spend the day ashore. In October 2009 Siips Wine & Champagne Bar is planning an eight-day journey in Northern Burgundy limited to 12 passengers to experience the very heart and soul of France.

We would begin our adventure by flying to Paris, France and staying one night at a boutique hotel on the Left Bank. The next day after lunch, we will be picked up and whisked away to the French country side to meet up with our barge. No trip to the culinary capital of the world would be complete without fine dining and, of course, wine. Our boat has an on-board chef preparing three gourmet meals a day with fresh supplies purchased in the passing villages. Lunch and dinner menus are paired with carefully selected red and white wines. During lunch, you will taste wines from family-owned vineyards that are rarely sold for export. All dinner wines come from distinguished vineyards.

Because the pace is leisurely, you can soak up the sights, sounds, and experiences of northern France. Relax on the deck while your barge glides through a quaint French village and listen to the carillon of an ancient cathedral. Borrow a bicycle from the onboard supply and explore the gardens and vineyards along the canals. Disembark and chat with the lockmaster before strolling to the local farmer's market for bread and fresh country cheeses. The friendly, English-speaking crew can provide recommendations and directions for all your explorations. Or you can join us on Siip’s specially planned excursions to vineyards and other adventures with your captain and fellow passengers. The freedom and flexibility of luxury barge cruising is like no other travel experience.

Our barge is elegantly appointed with all the amenities necessary for a luxurious and relaxing getaway. Every stateroom has a private bath, comfortable beds, and generous storage for clothing and luggage. Relax with your fellow passengers in lounges furnished with sofas, books, games and a fully stocked bar. The environment is cozy and intimate - like a floating country inn.

After our cruise we would board the TGV train to Paris and stay one night then fly home the next day. For the luxury traveler who loves great food, wine and the company of fellow wine enthusiasts, this is a remarkable way to explore Burgundy. The price is right for those who make a habit of indulging in the finest culinary adventures. Let us know if you are interested and we will contact you once the cost and dates are confirmed.
